Why your service pages don't rank, and the four fixes that usually work
By Jonah Bell, Head of SEO · 6 min read · September 24, 2026
Service pages are often the most valuable pages on a company site, and the least likely to rank. After auditing more than 80 sites, we see the same four problems again and again.
1. The page targets the wrong phrase
Teams name pages after internal terms. Your buyers search for "freight audit software", not "Lumen Insights". Check what people actually type before you write the headline.
2. There's not enough on the page
A 150-word page with a contact form can't compete with a competitor's detailed guide. Explain who the service is for, how it works, what it costs and what results to expect.
3. Nothing links to it
If your blog posts and case studies never link to the service page, search engines treat it as unimportant. Add links from your strongest content.
4. It loads slowly on mobile
Heavy sliders and uncompressed images push pages down the results. Aim for under 2.5 seconds on a mid-range phone.
